About Your Instructor
These classes will be led by Katie Powderly, founder of Eat Local Frederick. A longtime advocate for local food systems and seasonal living, Katie brings over 20 years of hands-on experience in homesteading, fermentation, gardening, folk herbalism, and natural food preparation.
Since founding Eat Local Frederick in 2016, Katie has been helping people reconnect with their food, their neighbors, and the land through practical, joyful workshops rooted in tradition. Whether teaching how to can tomatoes, whip up a healing balm, or simmer nourishing bone broth, her mission is to empower others with timeless skills that build resilience, nourish the body, and strengthen community.
Katie believes the kitchen is a powerful place to reclaim independence, celebrate local abundance, and preserve the foodways of Appalachia and beyond.
